Directions
Cast on 142 stitches.
Work the fold up brim:
Row 1: K, *K2,P2* to last stitch, K
Row 2: P, *K2, P2* to last stitch, P
Work rows 1 & 2 for 4 inches (or twice as long as you’d like the brim to be), ending with Row 2

Work the chart:
Row 1: Knit across
Row 2: Purl across
There are 23 plain blue stitches on either side of the chart.
Begin at the bottom right of the chart.
RS: K 23, work the chart, K23
WS: P23, work the chart, P23
Continue in the same manner until you've finished the wings.
For now, work the light blue (light grey) stitches in white.  We’ll put those in later with duplicate stitches.

Working Decreases:
I started my decreases the row after I finished the wings, but you can make the hat a bit longer by waiting until the row after you finish the A.  To decrease:
Row 1: K, *K8, K2tog* to last stitch, K
Row 2: P, *P7, P2tog* to last stitch, P
Row 3: K, *K6, K2tog* to last stitch, K
Row 4: P, *P5, P2tog* to last stitch, P
Row 5: K, *K4, K2tog* to last stitch, K
Row 6: P, *P3, P2tog* to last stitch, P
Row 7: K, *K2, K2tog* to last stitch, K
Row 8: P, *P, P2tog* to last stitch, P
Row 9: P, *P2tog* to last stitch, P
Break off yarn, leaving a fairly long tail.  Draw tail through remaining stitches, pull firmly, and draw through.
Stitch up the back using a mattress stitch, weave in the ends. Duplicate stitch the wing details, and voila!  You’re done!
